Justice United's politics are rooted in, well, the root of politics. "Politics" comes from the Greek word polis, which translates roughly to "the life of the city." Justice United acts for the whole.  

We believe in the affirmative individual (most people will do the right thing, given the opportunity) and that people are happiest when their lives are enmeshed in caring face-to-face relationships, building their communities together.

Souls to the Polls for Affordable Housing

In Chapel Hill 52% of renters are cost burdened (meaning they spend over 30% of their income on rent). The teachers, health care providers, food service workers, and artists who make Chapel Hill a special place can no longer afford to live in town.

Help us turn out the vote for affordable housing to address this injustice. Justice United endorses the non-partisan, $10 million bond for affordable housing in Chapel Hill. The bond will support the development of 400 new affordable housing units, and the preservation of 300 existing units by 2023. The average increase in property taxes for Chapel Hill homeowners will be $40 / year.

On October 21 we will rally briefly at Peace and Justice Plaza before heading to the Chapel of the Cross polling station. All who support affordable housing are welcome to attend the rally, only Chapel Hill residents may vote for the bond. Please confirm your attendance here.

Justice United will meet with embers of the Orange County Schools Board of Education to evaluate teacher hiring data from the summer and to propose specific strategies to increase teacher diversity and bi-lingual staff.

Justice United’s sustainer campaign is an invitation to become an investor in real solutions that come from communities that care.

Hundreds of Justice United leaders are poised to take action on our grassroots agenda for change: job access for rural residents and people of color, resources for immigrant students, and affordable housing for extremely low income residents at risk of homelessness.
