Hosted by the Orange County Property Tax Justice Coalition, which includes Orange County Justice United, the Marian Cheek Jackson Center, RENA (Rogers-Eubanks Neighborhood Association), the NC Housing Coalition, and a network of historically Black and underrepresented neighborhoods across Orange County.
Join leaders from across Orange County to propose that County Commissioner candidates commit to specific actions on property tax justice and deeply affordable homeownership.
We will propose that candidates commit to:
- Increase funds to preserve existing affordable housing and prevent displacement, through property tax bill assistance and home repairs.
- Make the entire property assessment process equitable.
- Hold the Tax Office accountable for ensuring equitable assessments.
- Increase funding for deeply affordable homeownership.

About the assembly and election:
With a competitive County Commissioner primary on March 3, the election is an important opportunity to establish public relationships of accountability and collaboration with candidates and call on them to commit to specific, measurable actions. Our assembly date, February 12, marks the first day of early voting. This assembly will be strictly nonpartisan; we do not endorse any candidates or parties. However, we do invite candidates to endorse our priorities and priorities, which are rooted in our values of justice and love, and the community stories and relationships that guide our work.
