As part of our priority to prevent displacement, Justice United teamed up with a countywide effort we named the Property Tax Justice Coalition. Together, we supported over 220 property revaluation appeals. Through our countywide reach paired with data analysis from the NC Housing Coalition, we also learned the extent of inequity, especially racial disparities, in the property valuation process. The most recent revaluation benefits out-of-state equity firms/investors and several of its wealthiest communities at the expense of long-standing neighbors in Historically Black neighborhoods.

The coalition is working directly with County Commissioners and staff to take steps to address this inequity. We also co-hosted a press conference that’s led to extensive media coverage:
