Justice United has invited Board Chair Brenda Stephens, Vice Chair Sarah Smylie, and Superintendent Todd Wirt to join us at our public assembly on May 9 to report on promising developments which appear to address our concerns around teacher diversity and hiring bi-lingual front office staff.
In order for any of these developments to become reality, the Board of County Commissioners must first approve a per pupil funding increase requested by Orange County Schools which will fund these initiatives. The County will hold two public hearings on the budget during the week following our assembly on May 14 and May 16.
Please hold this date as an opportunity to advocate for the OCS budget request. We will caucus to determine our level of support at our May 9 assembly following the progress report from OCS leadership.
